Grassroots Alhambra seeks to protect and strengthen local democracy through direct citizen involvement, strengthen our community’s physical and social health, and amplify neighborhood and citizen voices through fact-based thoughtful advocacy, civic engagement, and by demanding accountability from public officials.

Membership: 400 and growing
Our Board: Former City Councilmember, current Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Planning Commission and Historic Preservation Commission; Ex-Commissioners on Planning, Environmental/Sustainability, and Transportation Commissions; current San Gabriel Planning Commissioner; leadership in the Alhambra Latino Association; leadership in Alhambra Historical Society and Alhambra Preservation; public school parents; and civic-minded individuals.
Party Affiliation: We represent ALL of Alhambra, and our members are politically diverse – from Democrats and Republicans to Independents.

Notable Accomplishments

Strengthened local democracy by helping pass Measure V, which reduced the influence of big money in local elections and gave citizens a stronger voice through district-based City Council representation.

Advocated for public health and safety of future residents by demanding that the developers and political supporters of the Villages Project address serious property contamination concerns.

Supported responsible and sustainable development standards for large developments throughout Alhambra raising concerns about traffic, environmental safety, inclusionary housing, and public health impacts which are often not adequately addressed—while recognizing the community’s desire for thoughtful and beneficial economic development.
